WHO WE ARE

The UCAT Center was created under a grant from the State of Tennesse Department of Education, Division of Special Education, Office of Assistive Technology.

The UCAT Center provides access to assistive technology evaulations and demonstrations for students with disabilities in inclusion classrooms throughout the Upper Cumberland.

The 2008-2009 grant was awarded to Overton County Schools and is administered through the Overton County Special Education Department.

UCAT GOALS

To create technology enriched classrooms in five Tennessee Upper Cumberland counties - Overton, Jackson, Fentress, Clay and Pickett counties. These demonstration classrooms will provide a "living inventory" of equipment, devices and software supports that will serve the educational goals of students with disabilities.

To create agreements among all participating schools and teachers for cross-training and visits to the demonstration classrooms by teachers, parents and students with disabilities. Assistive Technology interventions will be in daily use and can be accessed in these classrooms for student evaulations.

To create a multi-disciplinary team to provide consultations and assistive technology expertise to special education and regular education teachers, IEP teams, school administrators and parents.

To create and maintain the Upper Cumberland Assistive Technology Service Center (UCAT Center) website. This website provides information about specific technologies, where they are in use in the Upper Cumberland area, and contact information for visits, demonstrations and evaulations.
